The Leapfrog Group, a healthcare watchdog organization, recently released their annual Spring Hospital Safety Grades. We all know that 2020 has been a year unlike any other, especially for hospitals and healthcare systems. With our country in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, it has never been more important to evaluate the health and safety of our nation’s hospitals.
Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades (formerly known as Hospital Safety Scores) are assigned to over 2,600 general acute-care hospitals across the nation twice annually . These Safety Grades use up to 28 national patient safety measures to produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.
This is an invaluable resource for healthcare consumers, empowering patients with the ability to search for the safest hospitals in their local community. Patients can rest assured that hospitals with high grades are taking every precaution to keep them and their loved ones safe, especially with the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

At Onsite Neonatal, we partner with hospitals that want to deliver the best possible care to their most fragile patients. 56% of Onsite’s partner hospitals received an ‘A’ grade from the Leapfrog Group this spring, compared to only 33% of hospitals surveyed nationally.
“As the Nation copes with a challenging pandemic, our gratitude extends to hospital leadership and health care workers everywhere for their tremendous dedication,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes genuine commitment at every level – from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors – and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this A.”
