Onsite Neonatal partner hospital JFK Medical Center, part of the Hackensack Meridian Health network, was awarded the prestigious international distinction as a Baby-Friendly hospital in August. JFK Medical Center is the now the only hospital in Middlesex County, New Jersey with this designation.
In1991, the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) launched the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), a global program designed to improve outcomes for babies and families by promoting breastfeeding. Since then, more than 20,000 hospitals and birth centers worldwide have achieved this designation, though less than 600 US hospitals have received the prestigious distinction.
Onsite neonatologists worked side-by-side with JFK’s labor and delivery team to implement the BFHI’s Ten Steps in order to increase quality and awareness. The Baby-Friendly designation is perfectly aligned with Onsite’s commitment to practicing evidence-based medicine and keeping mothers and babies together.
JFK Medical Center is rated in the top 10% of hospitals nationally for clinical excellence in Labor and Delivery by Healthgrades. The neonatology team also ranks in the top quartile for 13 of 14 key metrics from the Vermont Oxford Network (VON). Each one of Onsite’s partner hospitals is a member of VON and is consistently involved in quality initiatives to improve the health of our partners’ communities.
Onsite is thankful for our continued partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health at JFK Medical Center, Pascack Valley Medical Center, and Mountainside Medical Center. We look forward to seeing our partners receive more awards and distinctions as our national neonatal practice continues to serve hospitals and communities across the country.
